Best places to stop on your way to OCMD

We travel to Ocean City, MD regularly from spring break to Labor Day. I used to leave early, now we make a trip of it and my drive that used to be 3.5 hours now takes most of the day. But that's fine, we make a day of it and I love checking out new places with my crew. Here are 4 of the best places we have found to stop at between the Bay Bridge and Ocean City, MD.

Sailwinds Park -Cambridge, MD

šŸ“ 200 Byrn St, Cambridge, MD 21613

ā˜€ļø upper 80s

ā° 2-3 hours

šŸ’° #free

You can easily see the playground from the drive to and from OC and it is definitely worth the stop. The small but perfect playground is great for all ages. If your kid isn't a playground kid, take a walk along one of the many bike paths or down to the beach. Rainy day? No problem, check out the visitor center or the lighthouse museum to stretch your legs for a bit.

šŸ‘¶šŸ‘§šŸ‘¦šŸ‘±ā€ā™€ļø All ages friendly, 2 designated play areas

āš½ļø šŸ€ šŸˆ plenty of grass and open space

šŸšœ rubber

šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø lots of walking and bike paths

āš™ļø Stroller friendly

ā›± Shade from the trees but the playground itself is pretty sunny

šŸ§ŗ Picnic tables under the trees or grab a blanket!

šŸš» bathrooms in the visitor center

šŸš™ Large parking lot located near playground

Idlewild Park- Easton, MD

šŸ“ 115 Idlewild Avenue Easton, MD 21601

ā˜€ļø upper 80s

ā° 2-3 hours

šŸ’° #free

This huuuuge community park is amazing, there is something for everyone. Beware though, it got hot šŸ„µ by 10am!! I suggest going early or not on a hot hot day because there isnā€™t much shade.

šŸ‘¶šŸ‘§šŸ‘¦šŸ‘±ā€ā™€ļø All ages friendly, 2 designated play areas

āš½ļø šŸ€ šŸˆ plenty of grass and multiple sports courts

šŸ› 2 tube slides but one was broken. The others were hot hot hot!!

šŸšœ rubber

šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø .25 mile walking path

āš™ļø Stroller friendly

ā›± Shaded pavilion outside of playground. Some benches in the playground but they request you donā€™t eat in the play area

šŸ§ŗ Picnic tables in the pavilion or grab a blanket!

šŸš» 2 stall bathroom pavilion

šŸš™ Large parking lot located near playground

ā™æļø handicap accessible and 4 swings!

Ben's Red Swing-Salisbury, MD

šŸ“ 297 Beaver Dam Dr, Salisbury, MD 21804

ā˜€ļø 90s

ā° 2-3 hours

šŸ’° #free

This is such a sweet playground and has an amazing meaning behind it. Benā€™s Red Swings is a memorial playground for a little boy who passed away. His favorite color was red, so the playground is adorned with many red highlights throughout the structures. Itā€™s also a convenient location to park to visit the Salisbury Zoo. With the sand I would suggest this be a stop on the way into OC instead of the way home.

šŸ‘¶šŸ‘§šŸ‘¦šŸ‘±ā€ā™€ļø All ages friendly, multiple play areas

āš½ļø šŸ€ šŸˆ Some open area towards the back of the playground but mostly play structure and sand pits

šŸšœ pine needles and sand

āš™ļø Stroller friendly

ā›± Shaded areas around the playground and one sand area is shaded

šŸ§ŗ Picnic tables

šŸš» 2 stall bathroom pavilion

šŸš™ Large parking lot located near playground

ā™æļø handicap accessible

Chick-fil-a Easton, MD

šŸ“ 28632 Marlboro Ave, Easton, MD 21601

Sometimes the weather doesn't work in our favor and we drive right through but this time I had already promised my kids we'd stop at a playground. Luckily post covid world is returning to normal and play places are open once again. YAY! Normally i'm a little skeptical about play places, but Chick-fil-a in Easton was well kept and pretty clean so I was happy to let my kids run and play for a while.
